Reliable, accurate community-scale data is important for local decision-making, but often difficult for Maine’s island and remote coastal communities to access. The Island Institute works with partners at the county, state, and federal level, as well as the academic and private sectors, to gather and analyze data to meet the needs of these communities.

By providing easy access to quality information, our goal is to allow community leaders to invest more of their limited time and resources in action, and empower them with hard data so they can hold informed discussions, guide local planning processes, weigh in on policy initiatives, and anticipate future concerns.

Waypoints

The Island Institute’s "Waypoints: Community Indicators" series uses engaging, often never-before-seen data to communicate the character of our communities along with the challenges and opportunities before us.
