Erin Quetell

In her role as the Public Policy Director, Erin partners with staff, communities, and partner organizations to strategically advance Island Institute initiatives and community projects. She leads government relations work and public policy campaigns that advance the resilience of Maine’s island and coastal communities.

Erin has been involved in regional climate work for over 10 years. Her experience includes clean energy transitions, electric vehicle infrastructure planning and deployment, community and economic development, comprehensive planning, and collaborating with federal, state, and local agencies to support community members, and protect natural resources.

She previously served as Chief Sustainability Officer for Oakland County, Michigan where she advanced sustainability efforts for county facilities and large-scale clean energy upgrades for Oakland County residents. Erin also served as the Environmental Sustainability Planner for the City of Ferndale where she was responsible for integrating the social, financial, and environmental sustainability perspectives and best practices into everyday City operations, planning, and development.

Erin earned a Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy at Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Grand Valley State University.

Quetell loves oysters, spending time outside exploring with her family, and reading a good book.
