Community Development Officer
  • Center for Climate and Community

As a Community Development Officer with the Island Institute’s Center for Climate and Community, Skye supports Maine’s island and coastal communities in building energy resilience. Her work focuses on strategic planning, partnerships, and implementing innovative clean energy solutions that help communities adapt to a changing climate.

Before joining the Island Institute, she worked for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, where she focused on outreach and education to help address hunger across the state. She also brings experience from her work in South Africa and Kenya where she worked to support clean energy projects.

She holds a Bachelor of Science, Honors in Ecology from Stellenbosch University and a Master of Science from the University of British Columbia, where she studied how animals physiologically adapt to climate change. A first-generation college graduate, her education has taken her from Cape Town to Canada and now to the coast of Maine.

She lives in South Portland with her husband and their two beloved Boxer dogs. Together they spend their free time tide pooling in Casco Bay, swimming, and exploring Maine.
