Check out this upcoming webinar from partners working with us to support Maine’s fishing communities and a diversified marine economy!
February 18th at 4pm — Casting a Wider Net: Strategies for Extra Income in Coastal Communities
We are excited to be supporting an upcoming webinar, hosted by marine industry partners at DuraBrite, that will shed light on ways Maine fishing families can diversify their household income. Moderated by Amanda Smith, Coastal Opportunities Advisor at Sunrise County Economic Council (SCEC), the session will cover opportunities in the trades, tourism, education and training, as well as resources for self-employment.
Island Institute has been partnering with SCEC to strengthen a diversified marine economy in Washington County fishing communities through our Future of Fishing initiative, funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration through a congressionally directed spending award jointly championed by Senators Collins and King.
Business and Workforce Resilience Grants available now!
The Island Institute’s Community Impact Fund Workforce and Business Resilience Grant program is offering up to $5,000 to help individuals and businesses in Maine’s coastal and island fishing communities take a concrete next step in their business or career pathways, whether by building new skills, pursuing training, or improving the profitability and long-term sustainability of their marine livelihoods.
