FILM DESCRIPTIONS

  • Voices for the Ocean (5 minutes) – In this short film from Patagonia, surfers Belinda Baggs, Liz Clark, and Moona Whyte share how their love of the waves and connection to the ocean have led them to a life of committed activism. We protect what we love, and we can all speak out for change. And for some of us, the ocean is where we find our voice.
  • Kids vs Global Warming (4 minutes) – When Alec Loorz was 12, he was filmed putting up his Sea Level Awareness Posts on the beach in Ventura, California. At age 15, he presented his Declaration of Independence from Fossil Fuel to Senator Barbara Boxer on Capitol Hill. Now 18, Alec educates others about the science of global warming through his nonprofit organization, Kids vs Global Warming, and empowers them to take action.
  • A Climate of Change: Sea Level Rise (12 minutes) – The Island Institute shares a moving, new documentary about how the community of Vinalhaven, Maine, is responding to sea level rise, some of the challenges they face, and more importantly, how a small, yet engaged community can lead the way to planning for change.
  • Sea Level Rise: It’s Happening! (2 minutes) – Created for the Island Institute, this original animated short from O’Chang Comics/Puckerbrush Animation lightheartedly calls attention to the challenges Maine communities face from increased coastal flooding, storm surge events, and sea level rise.
  • FEATURE: 2040 (1 hour, 32 minutes) – Award-winning director Damon Gameau embarks on a journey to explore what the future could look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them rapidly into the mainstream. Structured as a visual letter to his 4-year-old daughter, Damon blends traditional documentary storytellingwith dramatized sequences and high-end visual effects to create a vision board of how these solutions could regenerate the world for future generations. What’s your 2040?
