As the leading fellowship program in Maine, Island Institute Fellows provide critical capacity for community-based projects. Over the past 25 years, we’ve placed 148 fellows in 29 different coastal and island communities, providing 500,000 hours of capacity to municipalities, school systems, and community organizations.

Originally from Bethel Maine, Molly came to the fellowship with an appreciation and understanding of rural Maine communities. Her motivation for joining the program was to find a post-collegiate experience where she could become a part of a new community, build strong relationships, and step outside of her comfort zone.
Molly’s work on Isle au Haut was related to climate change resilience, an area which remains relevant to Molly’s career. Currently, Molly serves as the Maine Climate Council Coordinator in the Governor’s Office of Policy, Innovation, and the Future. Molly believes her fellowship prepared her for her work because she learned how to independently manage projects and became strongly attuned to listening to communities, prioritizing their needs, and turning them into action.
