Peter King serves as Chief Financial Officer at Island Institute, bringing over 15 years of experience in finance and seven years of dedicated service to the organization. As CFO, Peter oversees the organization’s financial operations, ensuring fiscal health and sustainability while advising on strategic financial decisions. He manages day-to-day finances, provides leadership with essential data on financial and human resource deployment, and contributes to shaping high-priority initiatives by aligning resources with the Institute’s goals and objectives.
Before joining Island Institute, Peter worked as a business and financial analyst in Denver, Colorado, with Clayton Fixed Income Services and Interthinx. He returned to Maine to serve as campaign coordinator for Craig Olson for Congress.
Peter holds a B.A. in History from Colorado College and a Certificate of Graduate Study in Public and Nonprofit Management from the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine. He has served on the board of directors for Viles Arboretum in Augusta, where he lives with his wife, Maddy, and their dogs, Todd and Petunia.
As a former Islesboro resident, Peter’s experience living on one of Maine’s 15 year-round, unbridged islands underpins his commitment to supporting resilient island and coastal communities. Outside of work, he enjoys golf, the outdoors, and time on the water.
