About this Event:

Island Institute, CCLT (Chebeague and Cumberland Land Trust) and Surfrider Maine will be joining forces on Chebeague Island for an island clean up, data pull and invasive species removal event!

Purpose:

This collaborative event brings together local organizations and community members to protect and restore Chebeague Island’s coastal ecosystems. Through hands-on cleanup, marine debris data collection, and targeted invasive species removal, we aim to reduce pollution, improve habitat health, and generate valuable data that informs long-term conservation efforts. By working together, we strengthen local stewardship, support science-based solutions, and ensure that Chebeague’s shorelines remain resilient and vibrant

Volunteers will support three primary efforts throughout the day. Cleanup teams will remove marine debris from beaches and coastal areas, while data teams will catalog and document collected materials to contribute to broader marine debris tracking initiatives. Invasive species teams will assist with identifying and removing priority plant species under the guidance of partner organization staff. No prior experience is required — training, tools, and support will be provided on site, and participants can choose the role that best fits their interests and comfort level.
