A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a separately identified fund or account that is set up for the sole purpose of supporting charities and non-profits that are important to you and your family. Individuals receive immediate tax benefits and a DAF streamlines the giving process, allowing you to give now or over a period of time. Individuals can contribute cash, stocks, or other assets into the DAF. Those funds are invested for tax-free growth and the individual can recommend donations to organizations of their choice. The fund is held by a sponsoring organization that handles all record keeping, disbursements, and receipts.
Donor-advised funds are the fastest-growing charitable giving vehicle because they are the easiest and most tax-savvy way to give to charities like Island Institute.
