Lia Morris serves as a Senior Community Development Officer at Island Institute, leading strategic work in the marine innovation space to support Maine’s working waterfront through commercial electrified boat adoption. She builds partnerships with commercial operators, marine businesses, manufacturers, and boatyards to advance both pilot projects and systems-level change. Her over three decades of nonprofit experience as an employee, board member, and volunteer—including ten years at Colby College and work on the Penobscot River Restoration Project—provide a strong foundation for this work. Growing up in Southwest Harbor as the daughter of a boat builder gave Lia an intimate understanding of Maine’s maritime culture and economy, which combined with her M.A. in environmental policy and planning from Tufts University, positions her uniquely to lead this transformative work.
