Rachel is passionate about helping individuals and families make an impact in their communities through the work and programs of the Island Institute. As a Major Gifts Officer, she helps build the Institute’s visibility and resources by growing philanthropic revenue and enhancing fundraising efforts in the Penobscot Bay region.
Rachel’s love for philanthropy and connecting donors to the causes they care about is fueled by more than 20 years of experience. Prior to joining the Island Institute, she served executive director of the Ah Haa School for the Arts and the American Academy of Bookbinding in Telluride, Colorado, and as director of advancement with the Telluride Mountain School. Most recently, she worked as director of sales at Sunrise Springs Spa Resort in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Throughout her career, she has also served on various nonprofit boards and development committees.
Rachel grew up in a small coastal community in southern Maine. After attending school and working in Boston, she headed West in 1996 to follow the snow, landing first in Colorado and then in Santa Fe. She is thrilled to return home to Maine and immerse herself in the community and call Rockland home. When not working, you will find Rachel, her husband Mark, and rescue dog Doug exploring all that Maine has to offer. She is an avid hiker, road biker, paddle boarder, skier, and all around outdoor enthusiast.
