The work we do with communities is fully collaborative. By working together and leveraging knowledge and experience, as well as a deep passion for Maine’s coastal communities, we can build models of progress that can be used to help address issues throughout the state and beyond.
Solutions Library
When resources are limited, efficiencies matter. In our Solutions Library, we have examples of innovation from communities in rural Maine and beyond. Learn more about the challenges Maine communities are facing, how they're addressing them, and the lessons they provide for others confronting the same issues.
Data and Research
Reliable, accurate community-scale data is important for local decision-making, but often difficult for Maine’s island and remote coastal communities to access. We work with governmental leaders and partners in the academic and private sectors, to gather and analyze data to help meet the needs of these communities.
Networks
The Island Institute currently supports a host of network efforts along the coast of Maine and in similar geographies around the world. As a networked organization, we're committed to better connecting communities and supporting local leaders in addressing the complex problems they face.
