Vice President, Development

Michelle oversees all fundraising and development activities, and helping build the Institute’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. Working closely with members of the Institute’s leadership team and other key staff, she helps to develop fundraising goals and priorities to support the Institute’s mission, strategic plan priorities, and annual work plans, including annual fundraising to support programs and operations, and special multi-year fundraising initiatives and campaigns.

Michelle holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Williams College and a master’s degree in Latin American, Caribbean and U.S. Latino Studies from the State University of New York at Albany.  Before coming to the Island Institute, she was the associate director of development, based in Yarmouth, Maine, for Safe Passage/Camino Seguro, a nonprofit organization working in Guatemala City to bring hope, education, and opportunity to children and families living in extreme poverty.
