Ruth Kermish-Allen

Ruth joined the Island Institute in 2004 as the Education Outreach Officer coordinating initiatives to support the island schools and students. 

Ruth brings extensive educational experience to her position, having taught high school sciences for a number of years in public schools, including a position at North Haven Island Community School. In addition, Ruth was an adjunct professor at Unity College and the University of Maine; teaching courses in Environmental History and The Plants of Maine.  Ruth's major interests lie in small-school advocacy, place-based, hands-on education, and environmental stewardship.

Ruth received her training in Environmental Sciences and Experiential Education, obtaining a Masters of Education from the University of Maine in 2001.
