Jennifer Litteral

Marine & Working Waterfront Programs Officer
Jennifer Litteral

Marine Programs and Working Waterfront Initiatives Officer Jennifer Litteral joined the Island Institute in July 2005.

Jen brings extensive experience in community governance and policy development, having served for many years as a board member for the Mount Desert Island Water Quality Coalition and helping to promote community stewardship; and serving on the Southwest Harbor Shellfish Committee and on the Town of Bar Harbor Marine Resources Committee.

Prior to her experience at MDIBL, Jen worked for the Town of Bar Harbor as a Harbormaster and Shellfish Warden. She moved to Bar Harbor, where she currently resides, in 1994 via Key West Florida - from one end of Route 1 to the other. After living in Maine for 14 years, she has developed a strong sense of community and a passion for the traditional heritages of Maine, and it was only a natural progression for her to want to help preserve those distinctive qualities. Since coming to the Island Institute, Jen has continued the ongoing working-waterfront preservation efforts as well as worked as a liaison and to develop programs that bridge the gap between fisheries science, policy and fishing communities.

Jen has B.S. in Biology and began Ph.D. work in marine genetics while working at the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory (MDIBL).  Email Jennifer
