The Island Institute invites you to join us for the second Sustainable Island Living Conference.  There are a number of great ways you can participate!

Join us for the keynote presentations at the Strand Theatre - all free and open to the public!

  • Friday, November 13 from 7 - 8:30 pm: Tom Chappell, Founder of Tom's of Maine will present "Creating Commercial Value with Nature's Goodness"
  • Saturday, November 14 from 9 - 10 am: Matthew Simmons, Founder of the Ocean Energy Institute will present "The Gulf of Maine: What Lies Beyond the Fossil Fuel Horizon"
  • Saturday, November 14 from 1:30 - 2:30 pm: Roger Doiron, Founding Director of Kitchen Gardeners International will present "Doom and Bloom: How small farms and gardens can save and feed a big, hot, and hungry world."

And, register to join us for the entire conference offering of roundtable discussions, presentations, and hands-on workshops available in a variety of sessions on Saturday and Sunday, November 14th & 15th

Sessions include discussions around conference themes of renewable energy, economic development, local food systems, and sustainable housing.  Sunday's hands-on workshops provide opportunities to tour the Fox Islands Wind Site, visit the Port Clyde Fresh Catch processing facility, participate in a "Cooking with Local Maine Foods" class, "How to Enter the Energy Auditing Business", and much more!

Participants must register individually. General event registration is $25 for year-round unbridged island residents, and $50 for the general public. This includes all Friday and Saturday conference keynotes, break-out sessions, and a delicious lunch at one of four fine downtown Rockland restaurants.

Intensive, hands-on workshops and field trips are available on Sunday for an additional fee. Participants will have time to attend only ONE session on Sunday.
