Place Based Education
Place-based education is a strategy that encourages students to connect with their communities and public lands through hands-on, real-world learning experiences on community-based projects. It’s especially effective in the context of Maine’s small, rural, marine resource-based islands and coastal towns.

Local Resources
Place-based education is also second primary focus of the Community for Rural Education, Stewardship and Technology (CREST) project. Students and teachers in CREST develop community projects that focus upon local knowledge and resources.
