Wednesday September 2nd, 2009

When Maine author K. Stephens launches her debut novel, The Ghost Trap, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9th at the Island Institute, 386 Main Street in Rockland, it will not be your mother's book signing. She and local lobsterman Ryan Post will provide an entertaining, multimedia presentation that splices together fictional excerpts from Stephens' haunting story of a young lobsterman facing interpersonal issues and mounting trap wars with clips from Post's educational video documentary, Maine Buggin'.
For her statewide book tour, Stephens has teamed up with Post, a fourth-generation Maine lobsterman, whose DVD (www.mainebuggin.com) gives the inside scoop on how lobster traps work, how invisible territory lines are drawn, and why it's so unusual that trap wars are making headlines this summer.
The Ghost Trap, (Leapfrog Press, publisher) gives readers a glimpse into a little-known subculture of America-the everyday lives of Maine lobstermen. The novel follows lobsterman Jamie Eugley, an old-fashioned hero who puts family and heritage before self. Stephens, a long-term resident of the Midcoast, spent eight years researching and writing the background for the novel. James Acheson, author of The Lobster Gangs of Maine, and several lobstermen, including Monhegan's Zoe Zanidakis, served as consultants on the project.
Please join us on September 9th and find out why Publishers Weekly calls The Ghost Trap "A rugged and tender tale. Bawdy humor, snappy dialogue, colorful sea myths and rich lobstering details add to the immense appeal of this textured narrative about a lobsterman's inward and outward struggles." This event is free and open to the public.
