Almost 100 community members listened to news about the economic, environmental and consumer trends affecting Maine's iconic resource. Panelists presented on topics ranging from participatory research to processing and marketing. Following the presentations and the airing of the video "A Day in the Life of a Lobsterman" and the trailer for "Maine Buggin': A Year in the Life of a Maine Lobsterman", a lively panel discussion ensued, spurred by questions from the audience about the short-lived ban of Maine Lobster by Japan, the potential processing options for Maine's lobsters, and environmental changes affecting the fishery.
Panelists included Walter Day, a Vinalhaven fisherman, Laura Singer of the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, John Hathaway of Shucks Maine Lobster, Doug Boynton, a Monhegan Island fisherman, David Cousens, President of the Maine Lobstermen's Association, Robin Alden of Penobscot East Resource Center and Ryan Post, a Spruce Head fisherman and founder of mainebuggin.com
