The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association will hold its "Introduction to Organic Agriculture" short course at the Island Institute, February 4 and 5.The course, sponsored by MOFGA, is geared towards growers who are considering converting to organic or starting an organic farm.The course will cover the following topics:

• soil science
• meeting crop nutrition needs with organic material
• on-farm compost production
• the use of cover crops
• organic methods of weed, pest and disease control
• organic livestock production
• organic certification
• marketing organic farm products
