The Island Fellow will work with Peaks Island's HOMESTART (a 501 c 3) to strengthen existing, or help establish new, affordable-housing programs on Peaks Island, Cliff Island and the other islands of Casco Bay. The Fellow will research the Land Trust Model and easements that preserve affordability and will conduct community outreach. The Fellow will also work with the Peaks Island School and Fifth Maine on education and outreach initiatives.
Affordable housing and job creation have been discussed through the years and transcended political arguments. Both issues attract attention and commitment from islanders on all sides of political issues. Organizations supporting these causes include HOMESTART, Casco Bay Island Development Association, Peaks Island Fund, CEI and the Peaks Island Tax Relief Association (PITA).
