Affordable Housing Conference 2006

In May 2006, Islesboro Affordable Housing Fellow Alyson Mayo hosted and organized an Island Affordable Housing Symposium.  Culminating her fellowship experience working with Islesboro Affordable Properties, Alyson convened nearly 100 affordable-housing advocates for a two-day symposium that focused upon the affordable-housing needs of Maine's 15 year-round island communities.  Mayo invited guest speakers, including keynote speaker John Abrams of South Mountain Building Company and the Island Housing Trust on Martha's Vineyard, to inform participants on a wide variety of affordable-housing issues including: organizational models, resale formulas, strategies to maintain affordability, combining affordable housing and conservation, and much more.  Mayo also compiled an Island Affordable Housing Resource Manual that consisted of profiles on each of the 15 year-round islands' housing history and current needs, contact information for affordable-housing groups, sample documents for affordable-housing organizations, and much more.
