Beginning in early November, Meghan will work with the Town of Swan's Island and the Swan's Island Historical Society to help rebuild the historical collection that was lost in last year's tragic fire that destroyed the library, where the collection was housed. Working with community volunteers, she will conduct oral history interviews, produce recordings and videos of the interviews, help digitize old photographs and assist with cataloging the existing collections. Other projects may include putting together an exhibit for the summer of 2010, showcasing Swan's Island images and oral histories, creating a booklet, complete with old photographs and interviews with Swan's Island residents, and creating a short documentary on a compelling topic about Swan's Island.

A native of Michigan, Meghan received a BA in Theater and Speech Communications from Siena Heights University. She also studied radio production Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. She is looking forward to starting her fellowship, saying, "The work the historical society is doing there is a valuable service to the people of Swan's Island, the state of Maine, and the culture of New England. I am thrilled this community wants to have an exhibit, a documentary and a book of historical images created for them. I will work hard to honor their story. I believe that by examining the past we can better shape the future."
