| Megan and her students show off an art project |
Megan Powell was already familiar with "islandness" when she joined the Island Institute as the Swan's Island Environmental Education and Art Fellow in 2000: as Megan had just finished service as a Peace Corps volunteer in Micronesia. Working with students at the Swan's Island School, Megan:
- Taught projects that combined environmental education and the arts; including ocean mobiles, jungle murals, papier-mâché animals, and models of estuaries.
- Helped students plant and maintain a vegetable and herb garden.
- Planned and organized several student field trips, including a camping trip.
- Organized and supervised an art course for adults.
Pursuant to completing her fellowship, Megan went to obtain a graduate degree in environmental education.
