Margaret Snell

Margaret is the recipient of the James and Joanne Cooney Fellow award, funded by founding members of the Island Institute, "Jim" and "Johnny" Cooney of Attleboro, Massachusetts and Waldoboro, Maine.

Margaret is serving with the Isle au Haut Comprehensive Plan Committee, which is at the inventory and assessment stage of the comprehensive planning process. She will work with the CPC to build and organize the town's informational database using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, gathering and filtering information from the state and Acadia National Park, and conducting on-the-ground resource assessments. As assessments are completed, Margaret will present findings to the committee, and aid the committee in public outreach. Margaret will help community/committee members learn how to use GIS technology and, as they become more familiar with GIS, Margaret might help them leverage funding for equipment.

Originally from Buxton, Maine, Margaret holds a BA in Anthropology with a minor in History and Linguistics from the University of Maine.
