Cherie Galyean

Vinalhaven Library Fellow; Downeast Libraries Senior Fellow

Cherie served as a Library Fellow at the Vinalhaven School from 2002-2003, and then became a Senior Library Fellow from 2004-2005 based in Bar Harbor.

 

While on Vinalhaven, Cherie:

 

  • Surveyed the school library collection, and developed a strategic plan for library improvement.
  • Weeded out old and unused books from the collection and successfully wrote grants to replace them with new materials.
  • Cataloged the entire library collection into an online catalog.
  • Assisted with moving the library into the new school.

 

As a Senior Fellow, Cherie supported Downeast libraries and:

 

  • Assisted the Great Cranberry, Islesford, and Swan's libraries weed through their collections and deaccess using professionally accepted guidelines.
  • Assisted Frenchboro Library with developing a strategic plan.
  • Assisted Isle au Haut librarian with volunteer management practices.
  • Facilitated Maine Island Libraries Association meetings in Ellsworth
  • Organized the Island Firefighter's Forum
  • Successfully submitted a grant to fund the Golden Trap Award, an award for children's books, on the islands.

 

After completing her Senior Fellowship, Cherie became the Institute's Grants Writer.  In Spring 2006, Cherie began working with the Maine Community Foundation.
