Anna served as a Fellow from 2004-2006 on Long Island, assisting the Long Island Library organize materials, write grants, recruit and train volunteers, and integrate the library into school programs. Anna also developed diverse community programs for the library and school.

 

Anna accomplished many projects during her Fellowship, including,

  • Creating a Town of Long Island special collection in the library; cataloguing past Town documents.
  • Helped write a succesful grant proposal for state funding of Town's GIS conversion.
  • Organized a successful "Lobster Larvae in the Classroom" program at the Long Island School: writing successful grants to fund the project; purchasing the equipment and larvae; and organizing weekly lessons for the students. 
  • Completed a Master Gardening course and wrote a successful grant proposal for funding a school greenhouse.
  • Started a school garden where students take care of the planting and care of seedlings.  Students also fundraise and ran a plant sale, and transfer to community garden
  • Planned landscaping for a library "tech" garden; researched funding.
  • Learned library web design program; began to lay out school website in same program
  • Began photo database of houses, to be added to the town tax information.
  • Began re-drawing housing footprints for assessor.
  • Assisted Islesboro Fellow Alyson Mayo with typing and organizing bios and agenda for the Affordable Housing Symposium

 

After completing her Fellowship, Anna entered the Marine Biology Masters Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
