Andy will collaborate with the teaching staff at Monhegan Island's one-room school to integrate technology into school curriculum.  A particular focus will be on effectively using Maine Laptop Technology Initiative (MLTI) laptops. Andy's exploration of technology and other curriculum resources will allow him to identify resources of particular use at the Monhegan School and provide the teaching staff with on-island instruction in use of those resources. His efforts will also include teaching students very basic technology-related skills, such as typing, to the creative use of software applications available on the laptops.  Andy will explore the possibility of acquiring video conferencing capabilities that connect the various island school communities. He will also assist with science and music instruction and possible development of an after-school program. During the summer months, he will undertake stewardship work on the Monhegan Plantation Cemetery, by researching requirements for rehabilitation and historical preservation and recruiting community members to begin improvements.

Andy is originally from Virginia, but calls Maine home.  He received his B.A. in Environmental Studies with a minor in Music from Bates College, Lewiston, Maine.  He studied intensively for a semester in Bamfield, British Columbia, Canada, in terrestrial and marine ecology and resource management.  One summer break he was a camp counselor/student assistant with the Maine Audubon Camp at Hog Island.    Andy has worked as a senior staff naturalist with the Ferry Beach Ecology School, where he taught five-day residential coastal ecology programs for students in grades 1 through 8, and spent two summers as a program leader for the Summer Field Studies for Children at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine.  Andy also worked as a winter naturalist at the Gore Range Natural Science School in Avon, CO.
