Best Practices in PK-12 Literacy
All teachers are literacy teachers. Based on interest expressed by island and coastal teachers and administrators, we are excited to host this in-depth, three-day literacy institute facilitated by Portland Public Schools literacy coaches Tracy Warren and Elizabeth Spinney. Both facilitators have broad experience in elementary, middle and high school literacy coaching.
Taking place June 24-26, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Summer Literacy Institute will focus on best practices in PK-12 literacy and will be tailored to the identified grade levels and needs of participants.
About the Facilitators
Tracy is a literacy coach, consultant, and staff developer. She is a UMO and USM graduate with a master’s degree in literacy. She has also attended Columbia University in New York City. She has been responsible for implementing the reading interventions for identified at-risk students to accelerate their reading achievement, as well as, supporting classroom teachers with administration and analysis of literacy assessments, implementation of the reading and writing curricula using the workshop model, and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a diverse population of learners.
