Island Leadership Exploration and Development (ILEAD) Seminars are leadership training programs for island and coastal leaders. The programs are targeted at specific sectors of island economies. They are designed to bring participants together to develop leadership and create a professional network of island leaders.
What is ILEAD School Futures?
ILEAD School Futures is leadership training seminar for island and coastal educators working to address the acute and persistent challenges many of our schools face, as a result of issues such as declining enrollment and funding, meeting state and federal mandates, and attracting and retaining excellent teachers and school leaders. Some of our schools face an immediate threat of closure or significant change in the current structure or reduction in the current education offerings.
The ILEAD School Futures training is a way to bring educators together to develop specific leadership skills and create a professional network of support around these issues. The training will start with a presentation byCat Biddle, Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at The University of Maine, an expert on rural schools and communities, who will discuss trends and unpack relevant research with us. In the afternoon, we will focus on advocacy and strategy support, including topics such as how to work with the media and effectively tell your school’s story.
Who should attend?
School leaders and decisionmakers, including superintendents, principals, teacher leaders, school board members, and policymakers, as well as other interested educators, parents, and community members.
