Climate Change

In 2007, the Island Institute initiated a Human Dimensions of Climate Change program to catalog the influence of climate change and sea-level rise on coastal Maine by recording the observations of the lobstermen who are most familiar with the ocean and most directly impacted by its change.

Lobstermen's observations

This project began with a lobstermen's round-table discussion of observations that might be tied to global warming: changing times for peak catches; changing weather-patterns, etc.  Continuing discussions will point to specific factors for future research, and an Island Institute publication on the process is now available, view the publication by clicking on the link below.
