Boat Donations Program

The Island Institute currently accepts donations of boats valued at $40,000 or more.  Donating your boat to the Institute gives you several key benefits:

• The satisfaction of knowing that your gift will go directly towards sustaining Maine’s island and coastal communities;
• Immediate and complete elimination of the many stresses and expenses of ownership;
• Elimination of the difficulties of dealing with potential buyers;
• Favorable impact on your tax return following Island Institute’s sale of the boat.

If boat ownership is no longer the joy, imperative, or option it once was for you, now may be the time to consider the Island Institute’s Boat Donation Program. The Island Institute is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. In keeping with IRS regulations effective January 1, 2005, the Island Institute can only recognize the actual sales price of a boat/yacht as the bonafide tax deduction when the respective boat is sold.
